disabled parking permit

Applying for a disability parking permit

If you’re eligible, you can apply for a Mobility Parking Scheme (MPS) permit for disabled people
  • The disabled parking permit lets you park in disability parking spaces and access certain parking concessions.
  • You can apply for the permit yourself or ask someone you know to apply on your behalf.
Which disabled parking permit do I need as there are 3 types?
  • Individual (blue card): This is a blue card, valid for 5 years, for an eligible person with a permanent disability.
  • Temporary (red card): Issued for up to six months for those with a temporary disability such as a leg injury.
  • Organisation (green card): Available to organisations that provide transport for those with disabilities.
  • Motorcycles and convertibles. You can use a permit on an open-style vehicle like a motorcycle, motor tricycle or convertible sports car. But you must have registered the vehicle either in your name or in both your name and your partner’s name.

For an individual or temporary permit, apply online, download an application form, or get one from a service centre. Please ensure you tap into your local government site

What do I need to do?
  • To confirm you’re eligible for a permit, you need a medical report from your doctor or specialist.
  • Ask them to fill out the medical section of the Mobility Parking Scheme Application form.
  • Your doctor will confirm if you have a disability that affects your mobility and that meets the eligibility criteria.
Can interstate & Overseas visitors use their permits?
  • You can use your Mobility Parking Scheme permit in other Australian states and territories as long as it’s current and valid. All Australian states and territories participate in the Australian Disability Parking Scheme.
  • Be aware that parking concessions vary between states and territories. You must comply with the rules and concessions in the state or territory you’re visiting.
  • Before travelling overseas, we recommend checking that the countries you’re visiting recognise international permits.
How to display a mobility disabled parking permit
  • Always ensure your disabled parking permit is displayed correctly in the car on the left-hand side (passenger side) of the car.
