NDIS “What are the recent changes and updates”
Participants may see changes in:
- how their eligibility is assessed
- the supports that can be funded by the NDIS
- how their plans are managed
- how their funding is allocated and needs to be spent
- requirements for information gathering for eligibility reassessment
There will be a new definition of NDIS Supports
- What you can spend your NDIS funds on
- What you are not allowed to spend your NDIS funds on
- Plans approved after the law comes into effect will have total funding amounts, funding component amounts and funding periods. This clarifies the amount of funds available in the plan and how long the funds need to last
- All new plans created after 3 October 2024 will be for 12 months. Longer plans may be reintroduced in the future
- Specific changes can be made to a NDIS plan without needing to create a new one
The NDIS will be updating participants with the new definition once finalised

Your current plan and supports
About 4 months before your plan reaches its reassessment date, an NDIS contact will be in touch to talk to you about your current plan. Your NDIS contact will look at the information they have in their computer system and talk to you about how you are going with your plan.

- NDIS plan budgets and how you’ve used your funding
- your mainstream and community support
- any reports you may have from your providers, like your support coordinator or psychosocial recovery coach, if you have one
- any new or different information from you about your situation, the providers you work with, or the representatives and supporters who know you well
- your NDIS contact will talk to you about the ways we can reassess your plan.
