What steps do you need to take? Choose plan management at your planning meeting
- When the NDIA develops or reviews your NDIS plan, tell your NDIA representative, Local Area Coordinator, or Support Coordinator that you want to include plan management in your funding. They will then add it to your plan budget.
- If you want a change mid-plan, contact the NDIS directly via the 1800 800 110 hotline or through your LAC/Support Coordinator to request plan management inclusion.
- Next, select and connect with a plan manager by researching your options or seeking recommendations from LACs, support coordinators, friends, or family.
- Once you connect, you and the provider sign a service agreement that details the services, how they work, and how long they run. You then share your NDIS plan with them.
- Finally, your plan manager gains access to your NDIA portal and immediately starts handling invoice payments, budget tracking, and claims on your behalf.
What does plan management cover?
A plan manager takes on several critical administrative and financial tasks, including:
- Invoice processing & provider payments — They receive, review, and process invoices, then pay both registered and unregistered providers promptly.
- Budget monitoring & reporting — They regularly track your budget spend, send detailed statements, and alert you before you approach overspending.
- Compliance assurance — Your plan manager checks that all invoices meet NDIS pricing and compliance rules, therefore reducing the risk of errors, audits, or overspending.
- Choice of providers — You can use both registered and unregistered providers, giving you full flexibility when selecting support services.
Why use an NDIS plan manager?
Choosing a plan manager offers a range of important benefits:
- Less admin, more support — They handle the paperwork and invoicing, so you can focus on your goals instead of your bills.
- Greater provider choice — You access both registered and unregistered providers, which expands your options and flexibility.
- Financial oversight & transparency — Regular statements and real-time budget tracking mean fewer surprises and better spending control.
- Professional guidance — Plan managers are experts in NDIS rules and price limits, helping you optimise your budget and stay compliant.
- Prompt & accurate payments — Providers receive payment on time and correctly, so you avoid service delays or interruptions.
- Peace of mind and risk reduction — They ensure proper documentation, correct coding, and adherence to funding rules, which minimises audit risks.
- No additional cost to you — Plan management sits under your “Improved Life Choices” budget, so your existing supports stay unaffected.
Always choose a plan manager you can openly communicate with, especially since NDIS rules have evolved. Ultimately, plan management gives you the best of both worlds — professional financial handling without losing control over your plan. As a result, you gain more time to focus on what truly matters: your goals and wellbeing.
